No estúdio, D-Formation continua incansável, lançando originais e remixes com uma constância incrível por selos como Suara, Toolroom e no seu próprio selo, BeatFreak Recordings. Recentemente, o lendário artista remixou a nossa maestra BLANCAh e lançou um podcast exclusivo pelo selo nacional Timeless Moment, pilotado pelo carioca Morttagua.
Conversamos com D-Formation em uma entrevista exclusiva, na qual ele nos conta o seu passado, as suas inspirações e revela grandes surpresas sobre o seu futuro. Confira!
HM – Você é DJ, produtor e dono de gravadora. Como tudo começou para você?
Eu atuo como DJ e produtor há muito tempo e lancei a minha primeira gravadora em 1995. Comecei como DJ muito cedo, aos 15 anos, em um pequeno club que me deu oportunidade na época. Meu irmão mais velho já era DJ, então tive a sorte de ter em casa um par de Technics SL 1200. Tudo aconteceu muito rápido e, aos 18 anos, eu já era bicampeão nacional de DMC. Depois desta primeira fase como DJ, comecei a me interessar pela produção musical e, alguns anos depois, lancei o meu primeiro single em vinil. Criei a minha gravadora quando eu tinha apenas 23 anos, que acabou se tornando uma das maiores gravadoras da Espanha. Após este período, também criei a minha própria distribuidora de vinil e CD, a RESOLUTE DISTRIBITION.
HM – Você apresentou um set exclusivo para a série Timeless Moment Invites. Qual é a história por trás deste set, a sua seleção de faixas e as suas inspirações? Tem alguma faixa exclusiva que você gostaria de nos contar em primeira mão?
Este set foi gravado ao vivo no club ‘Projekt’, em Beirut. Foi um long set de quatro horas e eu extrai a última hora dele especialmente para a Timeless Moment. A grande inspiração para este set foi, obviamente, o lindo público que estava presente no club. Neste set você pode ter um pouco da ideia do estilo de som que venho tocando nos últimos anos, além de conhecer algumas faixas ainda não lançadas, incluindo um remix para a Dear Deer Records. O meu remix para a BLANCAh, pela Timeless Moment, que entrou no TOP 100 do Beatport logo após o primeiro dia de vendas, também está na seleção.
HM – E as tours internacionais, já têm planejadas? Tem Brasil à vista?
Uma das coisas que mais amo na minha profissão é a oportunidade de estar sempre viajando. Tenho datas planejadas em Ibiza, Portugal, Bulgária, Tunísia, Armênia, Grécia, Egito e, muito em breve, no Japão, fazendo a tour oficial da BeatFreak Recordings. Sobre o Brasil, não tenho nada ainda planejado, porém, gostaria muito de voltar a tocar no país, já que a minha última tour por aí foi há muito tempo atrás. Espero poder voltar em breve!
HM – Você acabou de fazer um lindo remix para a BLANCAh, que é uma das produtoras mais amadas do Brasil. Também foi a sua primeira vez lançando na Timeless Moment. Como é a história por trás da produção desta faixa?
Foi um prazer enorme remixar a BLANCAh para a Timeless Moment. Tive uma sensação incrível e uma ótima vibe enquanto trabalhava nesta faixa. Basicamente, usei as notas principais da composição original, que é linda e épica, cheia de emoção e sentimento. No meu estúdio, quase tudo é VST, com exceção do Sub 37 e do hardware Virus. No remix, eu usei os plugin Diva, Mini V e Moog Modular. Eu amo o sound design destes VSTs e uso na maioria das minhas produções.
HM – Quais fora, os seus principais destaques nestes últimos anos em termos de música? Poderia nos falar em primeira mão sobre os remixes e originais que estão vindo em breve?
Tive varias mudanças profissionais nos últimos anos, então é difícil de destacar apenas alguns feitos. Eu fiquei muito tempo no estúdio buscando uma nova sonoridade que sempre desejei para mim. Nestes últimos dois anos lancei os EPs Blakia e Aine pela Suara, que tiveram um sucesso incrível. Também lancei faixas pela Einmusika e Toolroom. Mas o trabalho mais incrível que eu fiz neste período foi mudar completamente a história do meu selo BeatFreak Recording. Desde o inicio de 2017, eu e a minha equipe estamos em foco total para fazer a gravadora crescer e conseguirmos resultados gigantes neste período. Em um ano, tivemos resultados superiores a praticamente todos os 20 anos de gravadora. Agora, a Beatfreak está entre as principais gravadoras de música eletrônica do mundo, sempre atingindo TOP charts .
Sobre meus próximos lançamentos, estou com originais e remixes engatilhados por gravadoras como Movement Recordings, Eleatics, Dear Deer e Proton, mais o mais interessante será o meu ALbum que pretendo lançar em Outubro pela BeatFreak Recordings. Este será o lançamento 200 do Selo e pretendo lançar varias colaborações especiais nele.
HM – Quais são os próximos lançamento pelo BeatFreak? E um showcase do selo, pretende fazer tours pelo mundo?
Estou com muito orgulho da BeatFreak e de todo o trabalho que a minha equipe vem fazendo no selo. Estou extremamente feliz em anunciar que teremos, muito em breve, lançamentos de artistas como Marc DePulse, Teenage Mutants, EdOne, Dmitry Molosh e Ziger. Estamos planejando showcases da Beatfreak pelo mundo. Começaremos pelo Japão, mas já temos outros em planejamento e que serão anunciados em breve. Precisamos trabalhar mais ainda para podermos anunciar um showcase no Brasil!
HM – Tem algo mais que você gostaria de compartilhar com os nossos leitores brasileiros?
Espero que mais ideias e planos apareçam, mas na hora certa. O que eu mais quero no momento é compartilhar as minhas músicas com os fãs e criar boas expectativas. Espero poder voltar a tocar no Brasil em breve!

HM – Hello Dimas, you are considered a legend by many, can you tell us how it all started for you as a DJ, producer and label owner?
First of all I would like to say thank you for the interview so that the people in Brazil can know a little more about me.
I am a DJ and producer of electronic music since long time ago and also it has been long time since I launched my first label in 1995. My first steps like a DJ were when I was 15 years old and like you can imagine the club where I got the opportunity to start was a small one and not really my style of music but I had a chance to stay closer to any DJ equipment. Anyway, my first mixes were at home because my bigger brother was a DJ at that time and I was lucky to have at home his Technics SL 1200 J The truth is that the things happened so fast and when I was 18 years old I won first position in DMC championship Spain 2 years in chain. This was my first stage like a DJ and one year after that I started to have an interest in the productions, buying devices and releasing my first tracks in vinyl. I created my first label when I was only 23 years old and it was one of the biggest labels for Electronic music in Spain. After that I launched my own Vinyl’s and CD’s Distribution (RESOLUTE DISTRIBITION) and many other things. As you can imagine my career is so extended and it’s difficult to explain in a few words the stages and the periods I have been through and even I haven’t mentioned yet the period of D-Formation that was in 2003.
The period of D-Formation actually was the one that gave me the great opportunity to travel all around the world, including Brazil J although I haven’t been so much there, but I hope that I can be back there soon
HM – You did an exclusive set for Timeless Moment invite series. Can you tell us a bit of the story behind this track selection inspirations etc.? Any unreleased material in this set you would like to tell us first hand here?
Well this exclusive set for Timeless Moment actually has been recorded live from club Projekt in Beirut, Lebanon. This is a set long 4 hours and I have extracted 1 hour from it for Timeless Moment in which the biggest inspiration was the amazing crowd there. I think that in this set you can have an idea about the D-Formation’s style, although it would be great if you could listen to the whole 4 hours set. In this mix there are some unreleased tracks like my new remix for Dear Deer Records that will be on sale this July (BOMBA), also there is the remix for Timeless Moment and Blancah that just went out and entered the first day in the Top 100 chart of Beatport.
HM – You have played in most countries in the world already, can you tell us a bit of your upcoming tours? Is Brazil on the radar?
Yes, actually one of the thing most I like in my work is the opportunity to travel around the world, to know different cities, countries and people, new cultures. My upcoming tours are here in Spain, the summer is very close and I will be in the best summer destinations like Ibiza, Tarifa also Portugal, Bulgaria Tunis, Armenia, Greece Egypt and very soon in Japan “Beatfreak Tour”. As far as Brazil is concerned I have to say that I have the great desire to be there soon. I have been in Brazil long time ago and I hope I can be back very soon.
HM – You just did an amazing remix for one of the most beloved producers in Brazil, ‘La Maestra ‘ BLANCAh, and it’s your first time releasing in Timeless Moment. Can you tell us a bit of the story behind this Remix, what synths, VSTs etc.?
It was a big pleasure to do the remix for Blancah and Timeless Moment. I was feeling very good working on this remix, basically I only used de notes from the main melody from where I saw very clear how will sound the whole remix. It’s an epic melody full with emotions. In my studio basically everything is VST except Sub 37 and the hardware Virus. In this remix like almost in all my productions the plugins I use most are Diva, Mini V and Moog Modular since I really like the sound of this plugins.
HM – You are on fire lately, your originals and remixes are reaching high on the TOP 100s on Beatport and you are getting massive support from huge artists. Can you talk a bit about you biggest achievements this last couple of years music wise? And what is coming up, remixes, originals that you would like to tell House Mag first hand?
Actually the last couple of years I have had many changes in my professional career and I have worked very hard to say what you are saying now. I have spent many hours in the studio searching for new sounds and for the way I want to take. In those last 2 years I have had very important releases like Balkia and Aine on Suara, another releases on Einmusika Recordings and Toolroom, but for me the most remarkable is the work that I have done with my team for my label Beatfreak Recordings. Since the beginning of 2017 I have been practically focused on this project and I can’t be happier with the results that we have achieved. In only 1 year hard working and its entire 20-years history, nowadays Beatfreak ranks among the most prestigious and modern electronic music labels, thanks to our work and thanks to the great artists who have released on Beatfreak Recordings.
For the next months I have releases that will be out very soon on labels like Movement Recordings, Eleatics, Dear Deer, Proton but I think that the most remarkable is my album that I am planning to release on my label in October. This will be the 200th reference on Beatfreak and I would like to do something special like an album with collaborations with very popular and great artists.
HM – Your label BeatFreak is doing amazing releasing hits after hits. Can you tell us a bit of what bomb coming up in your label?? Any label party tours planned?
Yes, as I said before I am very proud of the work that we are doing with my people, so I am happy to announce some of the artists who will be on Beatfreak in the next months, those are Marc DePulse, Teenage Mutants, EdOne, Dmitry Molosh, Ziger and more but let’s stop here J. Very soon we will start doing Beatfreak Show Cases and like I mentioned before we start from Japan, but still we need to work more so we can announce very soon a Beatfreak Show Case in Brazil J
HM – Finally, what do you have as goals for the main future and do you have other thing planned that you would like to share with our Brazilian fans?
Well I think that almost everything was said before. I have more ideas and plans but they will come out when the right time for that arrives. What I most want is to share my music with my fans and my expectations for the future are very good.
