O suíço Khainz tem uma reputação sólida no mercado internacional, inclusive, com passagens pelo Brasil. O artista ficou conhecido mundialmente por suas produções que passeavam pelo tech house e techno, conquistando inúmeros fãs pelo mundo.
Porém, nos últimos anos, o DJ vive a sua melhor fase na carreira e espera que 2019 seja o ápice. Desde que mudou de estilo, há cerca de dois a três anos, e adicionou melodias progressivas à sua sonoridade, Khainz teve um grande reconhecimento. Atualmente, é figura constante nos charts de techno melódico e progressive house do Beatport, chamando a atenção do lendário Sharam, que vem fechando várias parcerias entre a sua gravadora Yoshitoshi e Khainz.
Essa grande dobradinha entre Yoshitoshi e Khainz vem resultando em grandes projetos, incluindo um remix para a clássica faixa “Manila Sunrise” e para o próprio Sharam.
Khainz definitivamente caiu nas graças de Sharam, prova disso é o álbum com data de lançamento este ano, pela própria Yoshitoshi, confirmando a grande fase do artista dentro do estúdio.
O produtor também lançou, recentemente, um remix para o brasileiro Morttagua no selo Timeless Moment, e presenteou a gravadora com um mix exclusivo. Aproveitando a ótima fase, a House Mag fez uma entrevista reveladora com o artista.
HM – Olá Khainz! Você lançou recentemente um remix brilhante para a faixa “Hourglass”, pela Timeless Moment, que foi muito bem nos charts de techno melódico do Beatport e teve feedbacks positivos de grandes artistas. Poderia nos falar um pouco do processo criativo por trás deste remix e que tipo de softwares/vsts/hardwares você usou para produzir ele?
Sempre que eu recebo pedidos de remixes, a primeira coisa que vem na minha mente é a seguinte: a música tem partes interessantes que eu possa utilizar para a sua recriação? A faixa do Morttagua tinha muitas partes legais, então resolvi arriscar.
Eu usei muito trechos da original e recriei alguns sons para que pudessem dar uma leve modificada. Fiz a linha de baixo com um Moog Sub 37, o arpeggio eu recriei uma parte com Sequential Pro-6 e mas bateras com TR-9 e NI Maschine.
HM – Você fez um podcast especial para a Timeless Moment em parceria com a House Mag. Poderia nos falar um pouco soube a seleção das faixas e sua inspiração por trás deste set?
Não sou muito de fazer podcasts, pois gosto de escolher a tracklist com muito cuidado para que o set tenha um flow constante, com músicas que eu toco ao vivo no momento. O podcast vai do techno melódico para algumas faixas com a pegada progressive, e aquele toque de techno. Inclui quatro faixas autorais e outras de amigos e artistas que admiro.

HM – Você tem uma relação muito especial com o Brasil, onde já tocou em várias festas. Poderia nos contar sobre a sua última tour por aqui e algumas gigs especiais? E o que você acha da cena nacional e o que nos diferencia do resto do mundo na sua visão?
Toquei pela primeira vez no Brasil em 2003 e, desde então, eu volto com certa regularidade. Sempre venho para as edições do Universo Paralello e faço de uma a duas tours por ano. Minha esposa é brasileira, então isso torna o país um lugar especial para mim. Minhas gigs recentes favoritas foram o último UP, que é um festival sempre maravilhoso, e o Sunshine Emusic, em Curitiba, que foi demais! A cena brasileira é muito grande, eu não conheço nenhum outro lugar do mundo com tantas festas semanais e festivais com tanto público como por aqui.
HM – Você também tem uma bela agenda pela Europa, com gigs de expressão como o Street Parade. Poderia nos contar um pouco da experiência de tocar em um evento tão grandioso? Poderia nos contar também um pouco sobre suas principais apresentações em 2018 e sobre alguns eventos já agendados para 2019?
Street Parade foi algo especial para mim, já que toquei logo de primeira em um palco, e não nos caminhões que circulam na festa. O público é simplesmente maravilhoso, sem palavras.
Em 2019, vou tocar no Rakete, no Hive, que é um dos eventos mais conhecidos da Suíça, e eu sempre quis tocar por lá. Então estou empolgado para esse evento. Também irei tocar pela primeira vez no Nordstern Club, em Basel. Eles mudaram de localização e eu ouvi comentários maravilhosos sobre a nova disposição do club, especialmente o sound system.
HM – Sua sonoridade mudou bastante nestes últimos anos e evoluiu de uma base puramente tech house/techno para uma base mais melódica e progressiva, com muitas emoções e sentimentos carregados em seus últimos lançamentos, lógico, com seu groove característico. Poderia nos contar um pouco sobre essa evolução na sua sonoridade e quais artistas contemporâneos estão lhe influenciando?
Eu sempre gostei de muitos estilos dentro da música eletrônica, então sempre achei meio chato focar em apenas um. Eu ainda faço bastante techno e tech house e, no passado, também já fiz coisas melódicas e progressivas. “Kruemel” é um bom exemplo, lançada em 2006, ou “Everything is Jazz”, de 2008. Eu nunca gostei de caracterizar meu som ou colocar algum carimbo de gênero.
Bodzin, Maceo Plex, Nathan Fake, James Holdem sempre foram artistas que me influenciaram. Como meu gosto musical foi mudando durante todos estes anos, acredito ser natural que minhas produções mudem também. Eu sempre vou produzir o que eu gosto de ouvir, e não porque é algo que está na moda.
Eu ficaria entediado produzindo sempre o mesmo tipo de som, mais também acredito que é importante ter uma assinatura de sonora que possa ser reconhecida.
HM – Continuamos falando sobre música e sobre releases futuros. Sabemos que está planejando lançar um novo álbum muito em breve. Poderia nos contar um pouco sobre este lançamento, como selo, tracklist e datas?
Eu já lancei dois álbuns de estúdio como Khainz: “Mudl8”, em 2008, e “Simple as That”, em 2012, então são quase sete anos desde o lançamento do meu último álbum. Acredito ser uma boa hora para lançar outro trabalho. Na verdade, já estou fazendo músicas com o álbum em mente há mais de três anos, mas acabou que sempre vendia as faixas em EPs.
Estou fazendo um novo álbum porque acredito ser uma ótima ferramenta para mostrar todos os estilos de música que eu gosto de criar. Nem todas as faixas serão para o dance floor.
O álbum será lançado pela Yoshitoshi (do Sharam/Deep Dish), provavelmente em meados de maio.
HM – E sobre outros lançamentos? Ouvimos que você teve um período intenso no estúdio nestes últimos tempos. Poderia nos contar sobre alguns lançamentos e remixes que já estão engatilhados?
Acabei de lançar um remix para o Sharam na Yoshitoshi (está no podcast), um remix para Chris Hartwig, na Caballeros, e um remix para Mikah, na “Lauter Unfug”.
Irei lançar um remix para Toni Rios na BluFin, para Suspect One naPhobos e um Onur Ozman & Lazarusman, este último ainda sem data de lançamento. Sobre EPs, como estou lançando o álbum, todas as músicas estão indo para ele no momento.
HM – Chegamos ao fim. Gostaria de nos contar algo exclusivo para finalizarmos este bate papo? Quer deixar algum recado para os seus fãs brasileiros?

1 – Hello Khainz! You just released an amazing remix fo “Hourglass” on Timeless Moment, witch did pretty well on Beatport charts and got a lot of DJ support. Can you tell us a bit about your creative process behind it and what synths/vsts you used to produce it ?
When I get remix requests, the first thing that comes to my mind is always : “Does the track have elements that I find interesting to remix?”
Morttaguas tune definitely had lots of interesting parts, so I decided to give it a go.
I used quite a lot of the remix parts and recreated some of the sounds to give it a bit of a different note.
The bassline is made with a Moog Sub 37, the arp I recreated part wise with a Sequential Pro-6, and lots drumming is done with a TR-9 and NI Maschine.
2 – You made a special podcast for Timeless Moment in partnership with House Mag. Can you tell us a bit about the track list and the inspiration behind building this podcast?
I`m not doing much podcasts, may one or two a year because I try to carefully select a nice tracklist that has a good flow throughout the whole set and I want to showcase music i`m playing at the moment.
The podcast goes from melodic techno thru some more progressive driven tunes with a techno touch.
I included 4 of my own productions and remixes, the other tracks are from friends and artist I admire.

3 – You have a very special relation with Brazil, you played in Several parties here. Can you tell us a bit about your last tour and special recent gigs here? Also tell us what you think about our scene and what makes it special in comparison to other places in the world.
I`ve played the first time in brazil in 2003, since then I come back quite regularly.
I come every 2nd year to Universo Paralello for new years and have mostly 1-2 tours a year in brazil.
My wife`s brazilian so that makes Brazil also a special place to me as I return quite frequently.
Favorite recent gigs where Universo Paralello (Pratigi) (always extremely enjoyable) and Sunshine Emusic in Curitiba (was off the hook)
The brasilian scene is very big, I don`t know any other place with such a big amount of weekly parties and festival with those kinda numbers of visitors.
4 – You also have a great touring schedule in Europe with amazing gigs such as the Street Parade. Can you tell us about what was the experience to play in such a massive event? Can you also tell us what was the 2018 gigs highlights in Europe for you and what special events you have planned for early 2019?
Streetparade was definitely something special for me, as I played the first time on a stage and not on a truck driving thru the parade. The crowd was absolutely fantastic and had a great energy.
For 2019: I`m going to play at Rakete at Hive, which is one of the most known events here in switzerland and I always was keen to play there, so i`m really looking forward to this one!
Also i`m going to play for the first time at the new Nordstern Club in Basel. They relocated it on a boat and i haven`t had the chance yet to go there since they rebuilt it. I heard amazing things about the venue and especially the sound system.
5- Your sound change a bit in all this years and evolved from a more Techno/Tech House base to a more Progressive /melodic driving force, with lots of emotions and feelings surrounding you current releases together with your trademark grooves. Can you tell us a bit about this evolution on your sound and what contemporary artists are influencing you ?
I always liked a very broad range of electronic music, I thought its a bit boring to only focus on one specific style. I`m sill doing techno and tech house and I always have been doing more progressive and melodic music (Kruemel is a good example, released in 2006 or everything is Jazz from 2008). I never really liked to categorize music and put a stamp on it.
Bodzin, Maceo Plex, Nathan Fake, James Holdem have always been influencing me somehow along my journey.
As my taste of music also changed a bit over the past years, my productions changed a bit with it, I guess thats only natural. I always will produce what I like to hear myself and not just doing something because its trendy or fashionable.
I would find it quite boring doing the same style of tracks over and over again but I think its important to have a recognizable sound.
6 – We will keep talking about music and now about future releases. We have heard that you plan to release a album soon. Can you tell us a bit about the story of this album such as label, tracklisting and more details about release dates etc?
I have done 2 Albums as Khainz. Modul8 in 2008 and Simple as That in 2012.
So now, almost 7 years after my last album I thought it would be a good time to do an other one, actually i`m producing music with having an album in mind since about 3 years.
But most of the tunes I sold for EP`s in the end.
I`m doing the Album because I think its a great way to showcase different styles of music that I like to create. Not all the tracks will be dance floor orientated and it will have only my own productions and few collaborations on it.
The Album will be released with Yoshitoshi (from Sharam/Deep Dish) and should be out around May 2019.
7 – What about other releases and remixes ? we have heard that you were super busy in the studio this year and that you have lots of upcoming releases ready. Can you tell us a bit about labels, artists and more details about your future release schedule?
I just released a remix for Sharam on Yoshitoshi (included in the Podcast), a remix for Chris Hartwig on Caballeros and a remix for Mikah for “Lauter Unfug”.
There will be a remix for Toni Rios on BluFin , one for my buddy Suspect One on Phobos and one fro Onur Ozman & Lazarusman (no release date yet)
EPs of me you probably wont hear the next couple of months as the good tunes go for the Album.
8 – And finally, would you like to tell us something first hand? Anything, from a curiosity that you never told anyone or just anything special. Also would you like to leave a special message for our Brazilian fans ?
